The Butcher and I are avid Indians fans–no big surprise, right? I have loved the Indians since I was a little girl and Imm would listen to the games on the radio with my dad. I could name every player and I shagged fly balls with my dad all the time. Needless to say there was not a lot to cheer about until we got into the 90’s. Those were exciting seasons, but we never won the “big prize”. Oh, so close, but no cigar.

This team is different. They have faced adversity but they have overcome every obstacle they have faced. Our own sportswriters gave them no chance when Carlos Carrasco went down. This of course was after Danny Salazar was injured and before Corey Kluber tweaked his groin muscle and Trevor Bauer had the “drone incident”. Four of our starting pitchers with injuries at the end of the season; However, this team does what it takes to get the job done. There are cleveland-indians-1no Prima donnas on the team. They have a strong work ethic. After their win on Saturday, when they went up 2-0 in the series, they stayed at the ballpark and did a simulated game. That’s why the bullpen was ready last night when they were called upon to come in and play big. Trevor Bauer tried to tough it out, but the little finger was gushing blood. He could play through the pain but the umpire wouldn’t let him stay with blood going everywhere.  The bullpen didn’t disappoint. They gave up 2 runs. That was all the potent offense of Toronto could manage. Let’s not forget our defense. Coco Crisp made an unbelievable catch in the bottom of the 8th that kept the Indians up 4-2. Everyone contributes. There is such a love and respect for Terry Francona who is showing time and time again why he is the Manager of the year.

Trevor Bauer did cut his finger playing with a drone and I was upset about it. Terry Francona took it in stride and cleveland-indians-2said it was an accident and could have happened to anyone. As one fan said, “I would rather have drones than drugs”. Touche. There are a lot of life lessons to be gained from the Indians. They are playing together. They take this serious but they are having fun. They never give up. They believe they can get it done.

We are one win away from making it to “the big show”. Dad, you would have loved these Indians. There is no quit in them.

Until next time…From our Butcher Block to your Table.   Go Tribe!
